What to expect when submitting a moving claim

How to report damaged or missing items after a move

Written by Yembo

If items were damaged or went missing during your move, contact your moving company to start a claim. Whether a claim can be filed, and what it covers, depends on the valuation or insurance selected when the move was arranged.

ℹ️ The screens below are examples. Your claim form may look different.

Step 1: Receiving the claim form link

If the moving company uses Yembo for claims, they will send a link to a claim form by email or text message. The link opens the form directly — there is no account to create and no password to remember. The form is built for phones and tablets.

Step 2: Getting into the claim

Opening the link brings you to a welcome screen. Read the information there, then tap Next.

Read the How it works section, then tap I'm ready.

Step 3: Choosing what to claim

Depending on what your moving company supports, you may see up to three categories: Household goods, Property, and Vehicles. Tap Add beside a category to enter claim details.

If a category you need isn't there, your moving company handles that kind of claim a different way. Contact them directly.

Step 4: Add claims items

Adding household goods

Household goods are the personal belongings that make up the contents of a home. Enter the name of the item, a thorough description of what happened, your currency, the amount you're claiming, and any other details that help explain your request. The more detail you provide, the faster your claim can be reviewed.

If the item is lost, tap the Item is missing checkbox. The section for damage photos and video will be hidden, since there is nothing to photograph.

When you tap Record Video, your device needs access to your camera and microphone. You may not see this screen if you already granted access for an earlier item in the claim.

Tap Allow Camera & Microphone.

Android

Tap to allow the camera and microphone to be used during your recording. When the recording is finished, you are taken back to the item.

Three things are required for a damaged item. Record a 360° video of the damage, or as much of it as you can capture. Take one or more wide shots showing the whole item. Take one or more close-up photos of the damage itself. You can also upload receipts, appraisals, or anything else that supports your claim in the Additional Documents section, which speeds up the review.

Once every required field is filled in, the Save & Close button appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to return to the main screen, where you can add another item or submit your claim.

Adding Property damage

Property damage is damage to the home itself rather than to the items that were moved. You can claim damage to the home you moved out of, the home you moved into, or both. Enter the address where the damage occurred, a description of the damage, your currency, the amount you're claiming, and where on the property the damage is. Provide as much detail as you can, since it speeds up the review.

You may not see the screen above if you already granted access for an earlier item in the claim. If this is the first item, allow access to your camera and microphone so you can record a video.

Adding Vehicles damage

Vehicle damage is damage to a vehicle that was transported as part of the move, rather than to the items inside it. You can claim damage found at pickup, at delivery, or both. Enter the vehicle type, a description of the damage, and the amount you're claiming. Provide as much detail as you can, since it speeds up the review. When you are ready, tap Record Video.

Step 5: Finishing the claim

Once all of your claim items are entered, tap Submit Claim. An item cannot be changed after it is submitted, so review your entries first.

Read the acknowledgement in full. The wording is set by your moving company, so it will differ from the example above. When you are ready, tap Accept & Submit.

You're Done!

After submitting, you will receive a confirmation email with a PDF copy of everything you claimed. You can close the screen whenever you like. Your moving company will be in touch about next steps.

What if I unpack more damage later?

Unpacking rarely happens in one sitting, so you don't have to submit everything at once. Send what you've found so far, then tap the link in your email again to add more items later. This stays available until your claim is fully resolved. After that, contact your moving company directly if you have more to claim.
